Tatami Apartment

Location: Nicosia, Cyprus
Total area: 135 sqm
Design: 2022
Program: 2-Bedroom Apartment

Amidst the noise and the bustle of the city, the Tatami apartment was designed to create moments of surprising calm.

The main open-plan areas follow a minimal approach, with a delicate and precise balance of the material surfaces that suggest a sense of harmony that is complimented with wall panelling in a Tatami pattern on the walls. Inspired by traditional Japanese matting, the tactile surface evokes the rush and cotton fabrics used for tatami, and the delicate wood pattern appears almost malleable.

In the living room, the light from the vast floor-to-ceiling windows reflects on the white oak parquet surface, creating a subtle variation of texture. Organised around the kitchen table, and completed with decorative profile lighting, the room is understated and calm – the perfect place to relax.

The master bathroom is dressed in travertine tiles, whilst the guest bathroom combines travertine with a feature wall dressed in Verde Alpi marble, which extends out of the bathroom to the entrance wall separating the main open-plan space from the private bedroom spaces, enclosing the delightful internal areas in a timeless, tranquil environment.
