House in the Forest
Location: Kakopetria, Cyprus
Total area: 300 sqm
Design: 2020
Program: 3-Bedroom Residence
A natural and organic palette of local stones, Green Rainforest marble, wood and moonstone greys were defined to help shape an imaginative modernist dialogue with the forest in the interior design of this three-level mountainous escape, which takes advantage of its mesmerizing setting by the river and within the enveloping forest of Kakopetria.
It began with a graphic wooden wall cladding, floating biomorphic light sculptures, and a brass staircase railing with an intricate braid design that mirrors the carvings on the wooden wall cladding. It was a continuation of the materiality study of the site, brightening each neutral-hued space through textural contrast and chromatic moderation. Creating vignettes that feel intimate and encourage intrigue and curiosity.
With large swaths of stone and marble cladding in the living-room, kitchen and master bath and a mix of custom pieces and statement furnishings curated in each space, the ‘House in the Forest’ is both a design attraction and a comfortable family dwelling.
