La Volta Boutique Hotel

Location: Kakopetria, Cyprus
Total area: 400 sqm
Design: 2020
Program: Boutique Hotel

Set atop of a steep terrain within a clearing of Kakopetria’s forest, immersed within the foliage of the surrounding tree canopies. When approaching the hotel from the main road, you get access to the hotel’s roof terrace, which hovers over the terrain’s uppermost retention wall.  With the addition of a vaulted concrete roof that encloses a local tavern, guests can sit on the roof terrace and enjoy views towards the village from either end.

The height gradually increases as one descends from the most intimate to the more exposed areas of the boutique hotel. The three internal terraces gain unique floor-to-ceiling heights and host all public facilities. The sleeping quarters are located below these terraces, forming intimate and dimly lit spaces.

The core hotel services, and storage facilities are carved into the project’s retention walls, as such the space remains continuous. The stairs theatrically transverse the space along its central axis and continue externally encircling the boutique hotel symmetrically.
